Mitch Garver is a professional baseball player who currently plays as a catcher for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on January 15, 1991, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He played high school baseball at La Cueva High School in his hometown and then pursued a college education at the University of New Mexico. Garver played for the Lobos’ baseball team throughout his college years and was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in 2013, his senior year.
Garver was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He played in the minor leagues for the Twins for four years, gradually making his way up the ranks. In 2017, Garver made his MLB debut for the Minnesota Twins, appearing in nine games that season. However, it was not until the 2018 season when he established himself as a regular player, appearing in 103 games that season. Garver's baseball career took a significant leap forward in 2019, where he finished the season with a .995 fielding percentage, a .273 batting average, 31 home runs, and 67 RBIs. His impressive performance led him to be named a finalist for the American League Gold Glove Award that year, and he was also selected to play in the MLB All-Star Game.
Garver's achievements in his baseball career have made him an integral part of the Minnesota Twins team. His excellent catching skills and impressive batting abilities have earned him the reputation of being one of the best catchers in the league. He has remained loyal to the Twins, signing a one-year, $1.875 million contract with the team in 2021.
