Monte Weaver Autographs
Monte Weaver was a professional baseball player born in 1906 in Helton, North Carolina. He was a right-handed pitcher who spent thirteen seasons playing in Major League Baseball from 1931 to 1946. Weaver started his baseball career playing for his hometown team, the Elizabethton Betsy Red Sox, in the Appalachian League. There he was discovered by a Boston Red Sox scout and signed his first professional contract in 1926.
Weaver played his first full season for the Red Sox in 1932, where he had 11 wins and nine losses. He then played with the Red Sox for two more seasons before being traded to the Washington Senators in 1935. It was with the Senators where Weaver had his most successful season in 1939, where he won 22 games and posted a 2.68 ERA. He was also named to the American League All-Star team that year. In addition to his pitching prowess, Weaver was also a solid hitter, who hit .254 over his career with three home runs and 64 runs batted in.
Weaver was a durable and reliable player, who started over 260 games in his career, pitching over 2,000 innings and recording 113 wins. After World War II, he played for several teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds, before retiring in 1946. Weaver's legacy in baseball was cemented when he was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1963. Despite never being among the most dominant pitchers of his era, Monte Weaver’s longevity, consistency, and leadership made him an important player during his baseball career, and a memorable figure in baseball history.
