Mort Cooper Autograph

Mort Cooper was an American professional baseball pitcher who played for various teams in the Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1940 to 1956. He was born on March 2, 1913, in Atherton, Missouri, and began his professional baseball career in 1933 with the Albany Cardinals in the minor league. During his baseball career, Cooper played for various teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, Boston Braves, and the Chicago Cubs. He was a four-time All-Star and won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1942. Cooper led the league in wins, strikeouts, and ERA in 1942, and he was instrumental in leading the Cardinals to their victory in the World Series that year. He also led the league in shutouts twice and recorded 20 or more wins five times during his career.

Despite his impressive career, Mort Cooper faced several setbacks, including injuries and personal struggles. He retired from baseball in 1956 with a career record of 128-75 and an ERA of 2.97. After retiring, he worked as a baseball coach for several teams, including the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
