Muddy Ruel Autographs
Muddy Ruel was an American baseball player who primarily played as a catcher during his time. He was born on February 20, 1896, in St. Louis, Missouri. He began his baseball career as a youngster with a group of sandlot teams, and soon after, he was spotted by a local scout who offered him a contract with the St. Louis Browns.
In 1917, Muddy Ruel made his debut in the Major League Baseball with the St. Louis Browns. After a couple of seasons, his contract was sold to the Washington Senators, where he played from 1924 to 1933. He played a significant role in the Senators winning their first-ever American League pennant in 1924. Ruel was renowned for his defensive skills behind the plate, and he was credited with developing the "mitten-style" catching that is still used in today's game.
Throughout his career, Ruel also made several All-Star appearances, and he played in three World Series events, earning a championship ring with the Senators in 1924. Despite his excellent play, Muddy Ruel's baseball career came to an end in 1934, after 19 seasons in the Major League. He retired with a batting average of .275, 746 runs batted in, and four home runs. After his playing career, Ruel became a coach and a manager in the minor league system, and he was eventually inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1963.
