Munenori Kawasaki Autographs
Munenori Kawasaki is a Japanese former professional baseball player who made his name with his exceptional defensive skills and a charismatic personality, which made him a fan favorite. Kawasaki was born on June 3, 1981, in Aira, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, and began his baseball career when he entered high school. He was selected as MVP during the national high school baseball tournament in 1999 and joined the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks after graduating.
Kawasaki quickly became a reliable player and made his first appearance in the Japanese professional league in 2001. He played for the SoftBank Hawks for ten seasons, during which he won three Japanese championships and earned two Best Nine Awards for his defensive skills at shortstop. In 2011, Kawasaki was named captain of the team, and he also helped lead the Japanese national team to their second consecutive World Baseball Classic championship that year.
In 2012, Kawasaki signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners and made his debut in Major League Baseball the same year. His dynamic personality and quirky interviews made him a fan favorite throughout his time with the Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, and Chicago Cubs. Although Kawasaki's offensive skills were limited, he became a valuable utility player for his defensive abilities and his infectious personality. After spending the 2018 season with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in Japan, Kawasaki announced his retirement from professional baseball in March 2019.
