Colbert’s years with the Padres in the early 1970s are legendary. In 1972, he became the eighth player in MLB history to hit five home runs in a doubleheader. He also hit three home runs in three consecutive innings of the same game against the Atlanta Braves that season. Colbert was an All-Star in 1971 and 1972, and he was the National League RBI leader in 1972 with 111. He finished his career with the Detroit Tigers in 1976.

Despite being one of the most feared sluggers of his era, Colbert was never inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He continues to be an iconic figure in San Diego sports history and remains beloved by Padres fans.
