Nellie Fox, born in 1927 in Pennsylvania, began his baseball career in 1947 with the Philadelphia Athletics. However, it was not until he joined the Chicago White Sox in 1950 that he made a name for himself as a skilled second baseman. Over the course of his 19-year career, Fox was known for his exceptional fielding abilities, as well as his impressive hitting. Fox's bat was not his strongest asset, but he was known for his ability to put the ball in play and get base hits. He finished his career with a .288 batting average and 2,663 hits, and he led the American League in hits four times. Fox was also a key player in the White Sox's 1959 World Series championship team, batting .375 in the series and helping the team clinch their first championship since 1917.
