Nelson Briles Autographs
Nelson Briles was born on August 5, 1943, in Dorchester, Nebraska. He was an American professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a pitcher for 14 seasons from 1965 to 1978. Briles initially signed with the Milwaukee Braves after graduating from high school in 1963. In 1965, he made his MLB debut for the Braves and spent four seasons with them before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1969.
With the Pirates, Briles established himself as a top pitcher in the National League. He went 19-11 with a 2.81 ERA in 1971, helping the Pirates win the World Series that year. Briles was also a part of the Pirates team that won the National League East in 1972 and 1974. In addition to the Braves and the Pirates, Briles also played for the Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles during his MLB career. He retired in 1978 with a career record of 129-112 and a 3.44 ERA, and he was named an All-Star player in 1971.
After retiring from professional baseball, Briles served as a broadcaster for the Cardinals and Royals before later working in the insurance industry. Nelson Briles passed away on February 13, 2005, due to complications from a stroke. He is remembered as a reliable pitcher with good control and a strong competitive spirit who played an integral role in the Pirates' success during the early 1970s.
