Nick Burdi Autographs
Nick Burdi is a professional baseball player who was born on January 19, 1993, in Downers Grove, Illinois. He attended Downers Grove South High School where he was one of the best high school pitchers in the country. In 2012, he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 24th round of the MLB draft but did not sign. He decided to attend the University of Louisville where he played college baseball for the Cardinals.
Burdi was one of the top bullpen arms in college baseball during his time at Louisville. He was known for his high-velocity fastball, which reached 103 mph at times, along with a devastating slider. In his sophomore year, he recorded 16 saves and struck out 62 batters in just 32 innings of work. In 2014, he was named a first-team All-American by both Baseball America and Perfect Game/Rawlings. He finished his college career with a 2.20 ERA, 20 saves, and 168 strikeouts in just 81.2 innings pitched.
Burdi's professional career got off to a rocky start as he struggled with injuries in his first few years in the minors. He missed most of the 2017 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and he was eventually released by the Twins in 2018. However, he was quickly picked up by the Pittsburgh Pirates, who were impressed by his stuff during a workout. After a strong season in the minors, he was called up to the majors for the first time on September 2, 2019. He made his debut the next day, striking out the side in his lone inning of work. Despite some struggles in 2020, Burdi remains one of the most intriguing young relievers in baseball.
