Boyd had a successful career in baseball, standing out for his unique pitching style which included a high leg kick and a quick release. He was known for his ability to throw both fast and breaking pitches which made him an unpredictable pitcher. Boyd played for eight seasons with the Boston Red Sox where he was seen as their ace pitcher during the mid to late 1980s. In 1984, he achieved his best season, recording 15 wins and seven losses for the Red Sox with a 3.78 ERA, an All-Star nod, and placing fifth in Cy Young Award voting.

Despite his impressive record, Boyd's career was not without controversy. In 1986, he was suspended for being found to have cocaine in his system. He continued to play for the Red Sox until he was traded to the Montreal Expos in 1991. Boyd retired from baseball in 1996, after playing two seasons with the minor league team of the Texas Rangers. Today, Boyd is remembered as one of the most unique and talented pitchers of his time, with a lasting legacy in baseball history. Read even more about Oil Can Boyd at Wikipedia
