Orlando Cabrera

Orlando Cabrera is a retired professional baseball player who was a shortstop in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 15 seasons. He was born on November 2, 1974, in Cartagena, Colombia. Cabrera started his baseball career in high school, and he was later drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 1993 amateur draft. He made his MLB debut with the Expos in 1997, and he quickly established himself as a top defensive shortstop in the league. Cabrera played for several teams throughout his career, including the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics, Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. He was a reliable hitter, with a career batting average of .272 and 123 home runs. Cabrera's best season was in 2003 when he played for the Red Sox and batted .294 with 17 home runs and 80 runs batted in. He also helped the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004, which ended an 86-year championship drought for the franchise. Cabrera played his last MLB game on September 28, 2011, for the Giants against the Colorado Rockies.

Cabrera retired with several significant achievements, including two Gold Glove Awards, a Silver Slugger Award (2001), and a World Series championship (2004). In addition, he was known for his leadership qualities and respected by his peers for his work ethic and dedication to the game. After retiring, Cabrera worked as a special assistant to the general manager for the Cleveland Indians and was inducted into the Colombian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.
