Waner played for the Pirates for 15 seasons and is regarded as one of the team's greatest players in history. He won multiple National League batting titles, hitting for an average of .400 or better three times. In 1927, Waner set a record for the most hits in a month with 62 hits, which was later surpassed by Ichiro Suzuki in 2004.

Waner was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1952, seven years after his retirement. His career statistics include 3,152 hits, 1,309 runs batted in (RBIs), and a lifetime batting average of .333. Waner was known for his impressive hand-eye coordination, which helped him become an excellent hitter.
