Harnisch played for the Orioles from 1988 to 1995, where he recorded a 68-63 win-loss record with an ERA of 3.89. He was then traded to the Houston Astros in 1996 and played for them until 1998. During this time, he was selected for the All-Star team in 1991 and led the National League in earned run average (ERA) in 1993. Harnisch's baseball career was also marked by his exceptional performance in the 1999 season when he joined the Cincinnati Reds. He won 16 games, struck out 172 batters and recorded a 3.68 ERA.

In 2001, Harnisch retired from baseball after spending 14 seasons in the Major League. He had a career record of 111-103 with an ERA of 3.89 in 324 games. Pete Harnisch's career is a testament to his dedication and his innate talent for baseball. He was able to bring his best game every time he stepped onto the field, and his contributions to various baseball teams have left a mark on the industry.
