Nevin made his Major League debut on July 7, 1995, with the Astros. He played for several teams throughout his career, including the Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, and Los Angeles Angels. Nevin was known for his versatility on the field, as he played multiple positions like first base, third base, and outfield.

Nevin had his best year in 2001 with the Padres, where he hit 41 home runs and drove in 126 runs. He was selected to the All-Star Game in 2001 and finished fourth in the National League MVP voting. Nevin retired in 2008 with a career batting average of .270, 208 home runs, and 743 RBIs.
