Phil Rizzuto

Phil Rizzuto is a former American baseball shortstop who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees from 1941-1956. Born on September 25, 1917, in Brooklyn, New York, Rizzuto was also known by the nickname "Scooter," which was given to him by his minor league manager because of his small size and speed. Rizzuto was known for his smooth fielding abilities and quick reflexes. He had a career batting average of .273 and was known for his excellent bunting skills. He was the American League's Most Valuable Player in 1950, batting .324 with 200 hits, 36 doubles, five triples, and 92 runs batted in. He also set a career-high with 18 stolen bases that year. Rizzuto was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994.

After his playing career, Rizzuto became a broadcaster for the Yankees for 40 years. He was known for his unique style and catchphrases, such as "Holy Cow!" and "Unbelievable." He was also a public announcer for the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets. Rizzuto passed away on August 13, 2007, at the age of 89, leaving a legacy as one of the greatest shortstops in baseball history and as a beloved figure in the New York sports community.
