Weintraub played as an outfielder and first baseman and quickly became one of the most reliable and consistent hitters in the league. His impressive performance saw him get scouted by the New York Giants, and he was signed in 1933. He debuted in the Major League the following season, and within no time, he had become an integral part of the Giants' success. Weintraub spent eight seasons with the Giants, amassing an impressive career batting average of .295 and hitting 71 home runs. He was a two-time All-Star (1940 and 1941) and was part of the Giants team that went to the 1936 World Series.

After retiring from baseball, Weintraub remained passionate about the sport and became a coach at the University of Illinois. He also owned a sporting goods store and worked for the Chicago Cubs as a scout. Phil Weintraub passed away at the age of 77 in 1985, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most outstanding players to have played in the Major League.
