R.E. Cole Autograph

R.E. Cole was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1915. He attended Texas A&M University and earned a degree in electrical engineering. In 1941, he was drafted into the United States Army and sent to Officer Candidate School. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Field Artillery and later transferred to the Air Corps. During World War II, Cole served in North Africa, Italy, and France. He flew over 50 combat missions as a B-25 pilot and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery and skill. After the war, Cole remained in the Air Force and served in a variety of roles. He flew combat missions in Korea and Vietnam and rose through the ranks to become a Brigadier General.

Cole retired from the military in 1971, after 30 years of service. He continued to work in the aerospace industry, helping to develop missiles and other advanced systems. In 1985, he and his fellow Doolittle Raiders were honored with a ceremony at the White House, where President Ronald Reagan praised their heroism and sacrifice. R.E. Cole passed away in 2016 at the age of 100, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and dedication to his country.
