Ray Barker Autographs
Ray Barker was born on June 17, 1933, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a professional baseball player who played in the Major League Baseball for six seasons. Barker attended the University of Tennessee before signing with the New York Yankees in 1956. He made his Major League debut in 1958 with the Baltimore Orioles and continued to play with the Orioles until 1960, followed by a stint with the Washington Senators from 1961 to 1962. Barker finished his career with the Detroit Tigers in 1963.
Barker was primarily an infielder who played second base, shortstop and third base throughout his career. He was a reliable fielder who had great range and was known for his quick reflexes. Barker also had a decent batting average with a career average of .256. He was a consistent performer and his contributions to the Orioles in the 1959 season, where they finished second in the American League, were significant.
After retiring from baseball, Barker remained involved in the sport as a coach and scout. He spent four years as a scout for the Minnesota Twins and later became a coach for the Florida State University baseball team, where he worked for 15 years. Barker was inducted into the Florida State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984 for his outstanding achievements as a coach. He passed away on January 27, 2020, leaving behind a legacy as a respected player, coach and scout in the sport of baseball.
