Ray Burris

Ray Burris was born on August 22, 1950, in Idabel, Oklahoma. He was a right-handed pitcher who played for six different teams during his 15-year career in Major League Baseball (MLB). He began his professional career in 1970 when he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs. After two seasons in the minor leagues, Burris made his MLB debut in 1973 for the Cubs. One of Burris's most memorable performances came during the 1981 season when he pitched a no-hitter for the Montreal Expos against the Philadelphia Phillies. He also earned the National League Player of the Week award for his efforts. Burris played for several teams throughout his career, including the Cubs, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Montreal Expos, Oakland Athletics, and Milwaukee Brewers. He ended his career with a record of 108 wins and 134 losses, an ERA of 4.17, and 1,224 strikeouts.

After retiring from baseball, Burris spent several years as a pitching coach for various minor league teams. He helped develop and coach several players who went on to successful MLB careers, including John Lackey and Corey Kluber. Burris also served as a color commentator for the Chicago Cubs on WGN-TV during the 1990s.
