Ray Dandridge was born on August 31, 1913, in Richmond, Virginia. Dandridge had an impressive career as a third baseman in the Negro Leagues, American and Mexican Baseball Leagues. He started his professional baseball career with the Newark Eagles in 1933, where he played alongside future Hall of Famers Monte Irvin and Larry Doby. Dandridge became a standout player for the Eagles, and in his first season, he hit a .364 batting average. He also won the MVP award in the Negro National League three times. More about Ray Dandridge

Dandridge is often considered one of the greatest third basemen in Negro League history. However, he did not receive recognition from the Major League Awards Committee until 1987, where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award. His impressive career was finally recognized in 2020 when he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
