Ray Dandridge Autographs
Ray Dandridge was born on August 31, 1913, in Richmond, Virginia. Dandridge had an impressive career as a third baseman in the Negro Leagues, American and Mexican Baseball Leagues. He started his professional baseball career with the Newark Eagles in 1933, where he played alongside future Hall of Famers Monte Irvin and Larry Doby. Dandridge became a standout player for the Eagles, and in his first season, he hit a .364 batting average. He also won the MVP award in the Negro National League three times.
Dandridge was known for his excellent defense and offensive skills during his career. He had a .348 batting average in 1951 and later won two batting titles in the Mexican League in 1942 and 1946. He was nicknamed "Scooter" because of his speed on the field, which made him a great base runner. In addition to his stolen bases, he hit 84 home runs in his professional career.
Dandridge is often considered one of the greatest third basemen in Negro League history. However, he did not receive recognition from the Major League Awards Committee until 1987, where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award. His impressive career was finally recognized in 2020 when he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Ray Dandridge paved the way for players of color to play in organized baseball and inspired generations of young baseball players.
