Ray Fosse was born in Marion, Illinois, on April 4, 1947. He was a catcher for the Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers in his Major League Baseball career, which spanned from 1967 to 1979. Fosse was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the 1965 MLB draft, and with Cleveland, he spent the first six years of his career. His best year with the Indians was in 1970, where he hit .307 with 18 home runs and 61 runs batted in. More about Ray Fosse

Fosse's most notable achievement in baseball was in the 1970 MLB All-Star game, where he was involved in one of the most famous plays in baseball history. In the bottom of the 12th inning, Fosse was behind the plate and was guarding home plate when Cincinnati Reds' player Pete Rose barreled into him, causing a collision that knocked Fosse unconscious with a separated shoulder.
