Red Wilson Autograph

Red Wilson was a professional baseball player who played mostly as a catcher in the MLB from 1946 to 1956. Wilson was born on July 31, 1929, in Belfast, Northern Ireland; he later moved with his family to Canada when he was six years old. Wilson was discovered by a scout when he was playing for a local club in Toronto, and he signed with the Detroit Tigers in 1946 at the age of 16. During his career, Wilson played for the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, and the Cleveland Indians. He was known for his defensive skills, and he had a reputation as one of the best catchers of his time. Wilson was also a great hitter, with a .257 career batting average and a .982 fielding percentage. He was selected to the All-Star game twice in 1951 and 1953, and he was part of the Tigers team that won the American League Pennant in 1949.

After retiring from baseball, Wilson became a coach and scout in the minor leagues. He also worked for the Toronto Blue Jays for many years, and he was a respected figure in the baseball community. Wilson was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989, and the city of Toronto named a field in his honor.
