Rick Reed was born on August 16, 1965, in Huntington, West Virginia. He spent most of his childhood in the small town of Nitro and developed a passion for baseball at a young age. After graduating from Nitro High School in 1983, Reed continued to pursue his love for baseball at Marshall University. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 26th round of the 1986 MLB Draft, but ultimately did not sign. More about Rick Reed

After retiring from baseball in 2003, Reed worked as an umpire for a few years before joining the St. Paul Saints as a pitching coach in 2005. In 2008, he was named the team's manager, a role he held for eight seasons. Under Reed's leadership, the Saints won two league championships and achieved a league record of 74-26 in 2015. Rick Reed continues to work in baseball as a pitching consultant and enjoys spending time with his family in Minnesota. He is remembered as a talented and dedicated pitcher who left a lasting impact on the sport.
