Rick WiseRick Wise is a former American professional baseball pitcher who had an illustrious career in Major League Baseball (MLB) spanning from 1964 to 1982. Born on September 13, 1945, in Jackson, Michigan, Rick Wise was a formidable force on the pitching mound known for his lethal fastball and control of the game. He started his career playing for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1964, where he played for five seasons, racking up a record of 75-76 with an ERA of 3.67. During his time there, he made several notable achievements, including pitching a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds in 1971.
In 1972, Rick Wise was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, which marked the beginning of one of his best seasons. He went 16-12, with a career-best ERA of 2.88, and tied for first in the National League with 19 complete games. In addition, he hit 6 home runs that season, one of which was a grand slam against the San Francisco Giants. Rick Wise's most iconic moment came in 1975, while playing for the Boston Red Sox, when he was traded to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for hall-of-famer Dennis Eckersley. But before he left, he etched his name in baseball history by hitting two home runs and pitching a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds, becoming the only pitcher in MLB history to achieve such a feat.
Rick Wise retired from baseball in 1982, finishing with a cumulative record of 188-181, an ERA of 3.69, and 1,647 strikeouts. He was known for his fierce competitiveness and pitching ability, which made him a force to be reckoned with on the baseball field. Later on, Rick served as a coach and mentor for aspiring pitchers, passing on his wisdom and experience to the next generation of baseball players.
