Ricky Nelson was born Eric Hilliard Nelson on May 8, 1940, in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was the second son of music couple Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, and he was exposed to music at a young age. By the age of 16, he released his first single "I'm Walkin'" that became an instant hit. This marked the beginning of his music career.
In the 1950s, Ricky Nelson was considered a teen idol, with his music being played all over the radio. He had over 30 hit singles and appeared on numerous television shows including The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, which was a family sitcom that starred his parents. He was known for his melodic voice, soothing guitar, and his performance style in front of the camera. He was also a pioneer of the rockabilly sound, helping to popularize the genre in the United States.
As his career progressed, Ricky Nelson expanded his sound and style. He experimented with country, rock, and pop music, releasing a string of successful albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He was admired and respected by both his peers and fans for his talent and creativity. Sadly, Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash on December 31, 1985, while en route to a New Year's Eve concert in Texas. He will always be remembered for his contribution to music and his enduring legacy.
