Rod Beck Autographs
Rodney Roy "Rod" Beck was an American professional baseball player who spent 13 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). Beck was born on August 3, 1968 in Burbank, California. He attended Grant High School in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, and during his high school years, he played baseball, basketball, and football. However, baseball was his first love, and he excelled at it throughout his career.
In 1986, Beck was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 13th round of the amateur draft, but he did not sign. Three years later, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 13th round of the 1989 Major League Baseball draft. After a couple of years in the minor leagues, he made his Major League debut with the Giants in 1991. Beck quickly became one of the best closers in baseball, earning his first All-Star Game selection in 1994. Over his 13-year career, he played for several teams including the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres.
Beck also had an impressive record, recording 286 saves in 724 games, with an impressive earned run average (ERA) of 3.30. One of his best years in the MLB was in 1993, when he earned 48 saves for the San Francisco Giants, which was a National League record at the time. In 1999, he received the prestigious "Rolaids Relief Man Award," which is given to the best relief pitcher of the year. Rod Beck was beloved by teammates and fans for his easy-going personality and clutch performances. Sadly, he passed away on June 23, 2007, at the age of 38 in Phoenix, Arizona, due to complications of sleep apnea.
