Ron Bloomberg Autographs
Ron Bloomberg was an American baseball player born on August 10, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York. He was primarily a designated hitter and left fielder for the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Brewers. Bloomberg played his high school baseball at Miami Beach Senior High School and was drafted by the Yankees in the first round of the 1967 Major League Baseball draft.
Bloomberg's career started in 1970, and he quickly became a fan favorite for his hitting capabilities. He made history in 1973 when he became the first designated hitter in Major League Baseball history, playing in a game against the Boston Red Sox. This made him a pioneer in the American League where the designated hitter rule was used. Bloomberg had a batting average of .301 in his six seasons with the Yankees and had 51 home runs during his time with the team.
After a shoulder injury cut his career short, Bloomberg retired in 1981 with a lifetime batting average of .293. His impact on the game of baseball was recognized in 2011 when he was inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame for his contribution to the sport. Bloomberg's career as a designated hitter changed the game of baseball and opened the door for others to follow in his footsteps. His legacy and achievements will forever be remembered in the baseball world.
