Ron Davis Autographs
Ron Davis is a former professional baseball pitcher who played for multiple Major League Baseball (MLB) teams from 1978 to 1988. Born on August 6, 1955, in Houston, Texas, Davis played baseball at high school and college levels before being drafted by the New York Yankees in the sixth round of the 1976 MLB draft.
Davis made his MLB debut with the Yankees in 1978 and spent four seasons with the team. He was known for his fastball and curveball, which earned him a reputation as a strikeout pitcher. In 1981, he had a stellar season, finishing with a 14-2 record and a 2.85 ERA, helping the Yankees win the American League pennant. However, he struggled with injuries and inconsistency in the following seasons, leading the Yankees to trade him to the Minnesota Twins in 1982.
Davis had a successful stint with the Twins from 1982 to 1986, becoming the team's closer in 1984 and setting a then-club record with 29 saves. He also represented the Twins in the 1984 MLB All-Star Game. Davis went on to play for the Chicago Cubs, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the San Francisco Giants before retiring in 1988. In his career, he had a record of 62-79 with 130 saves and a 4.51 ERA. Despite his struggles in the latter part of his career, Davis will be remembered as one of the top relievers of the early 1980s, with his standout 1981 season being a highlight of his baseball career.
