Ron Stone was born on June 20, 1949, in Johnson City, Tennessee, and grew up playing baseball. His exceptional talent in the field earned him a scholarship to the University of Tennessee, where he played from 1969 to 1971. In college, Stone displayed his versatility by playing both catcher and outfield positions. In 1971, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Southeastern Conference Tournament. After his college career, Stone entered the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft, and in 1971 he was chosen by the Cincinnati Reds in the third round. He signed with the Reds and played in their minor league system until 1974. Stone finally made it to the big leagues in 1975, playing for the Reds for two seasons before getting traded to the Montreal Expos. He spent the next three seasons playing for the Expos before retiring in 1979.
