Ross Baumgarten Autographs
Ross Baumgarten was an American baseball pitcher who played for the Chicago White Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Baumgarten was born on March 14, 1955, in Evanston, Illinois. He played high school baseball at Evanston Township High School, where he established himself as one of the top pitching prospects in the state.
After graduation, Baumgarten attended Northwestern University on a baseball scholarship. He pitched for the Northwestern Wildcats for three seasons, from 1974 to 1976, before being drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 14th round of the 1976 MLB draft. He made his Major League debut for the White Sox on June 6, 1978, against the Texas Rangers. He spent five seasons with the White Sox, compiling a record of 25-35 with a 4.30 ERA in 126 appearances.
In 1983, Baumgarten was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he spent his final season in the big leagues. He appeared in only six games for the Pirates before being sent down to the minor leagues, where he played for the Hawaii Islanders of the Pacific Coast League. Baumgarten retired from baseball in 1984, with a career record of 26-38 and a 4.43 ERA in 142 appearances. Following his retirement, he worked as a sales executive for a number of different companies, and currently resides in the Chicago area.
