Roy Smith was born on February 18, 1961, in Mount Vernon, New York. He was a right-handed pitcher who played professional baseball for five teams from 1984 to 1995. Smith grew up playing baseball in little league and went to high school to keep playing his passion. He went on to attend Mercer County Community College in West Windsor Township, New Jersey, where he played for the Mercer Vikings.
Smith's professional career began when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third round of the 1984 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his major league debut on September 8, 1987, with the Pirates. Later in his career, he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Montreal Expos, and Cleveland Indians. He ended his professional career playing in the Japanese Professional League with the Yokohama BayStars in 1995. Smith's career success culminated in 1992 when he won eleven games for the Minnesota Twins on their way to a World Series Championship.
Today, Smith is retired from baseball and lives quietly with his family. His legacy remains as an accomplished pitcher who played for some of the most successful teams in baseball history. He is remembered for his precision and dedication to the game, having earned the nickname “Ice Water in His Veins” for his calm and poised approach to the game. Roy Smith’s hard work and dedication to baseball will be forever remembered in the annals of baseball history.
