Rube Walker was a baseball player and coach, best known for his career as a catcher in the Major League Baseball. Born on May 16, 1926, in Nebraska, Walker played baseball and football in high school and later served in the Navy in World War II. After his playing career ended, Walker became a coach and was known for his excellent work as a pitching coach. He was the pitching coach for the New York Mets from 1968 to 1981, guiding the team to their first-ever World Championship in 1969. Walker was a key figure in developing the young pitching staff, including Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, and Nolan Ryan, during the Mets' historic season. Rube Walker passed away in 1992, but his legacy as a great defensive catcher and pitching coach has continued to inspire generations of players and coaches in the baseball world.
