Branyan started his professional career in the minor leagues where he made quite an impact. In 1997, he was named the Indians' Minor League Player of the Year after establishing new club records in home runs and RBIs. In 1998, he made his major league debut with the Indians but struggled to find consistency in his form. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 2002, and in the following year, he hit 26 home runs, the highest of his career. Branyan played with several teams in his 14-year major league career, including Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners, and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Branyan is known for his powerful swing and had a reputation for hitting long home runs. He finished his career with 194 home runs, 87 of which came from his three stints with the Cleveland Indians. In addition to his hitting prowess, he was also a versatile fielder and could play both first and third base.
