Sadaharu Oh is a retired Japanese baseball player and coach. He was born on May 20, 1940 in Tokyo, Japan. He is best known for his career as a first baseman for the Yomiuri Giants, a team he played for from 1959 to 1980. Oh’s career saw him achieve tremendous success both at home and abroad. One of the greatest moments of Oh’s career came in 1964 when he hit his 55th home run breaking the previous Japanese record for most home runs in a single season. He finished the year with 55 home runs and would go on to break his own record twice in his career with a total of 868 career home runs. Oh was also a part of four Japan Series championship teams during his playing career.
