Sammy White was an American football player who played as a wide receiver from 1976 to 1985. He was born on March 25, 1954, in Fort Pierce, Florida, and he attended the University of Grambling, where he played college football. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 1976 NFL Draft, and he played for the team for nine seasons. White was known for his blazing speed, and he was a deep threat for the Vikings offense.
Throughout his football career, Sammy White made significant contributions to the Minnesota Vikings, and he was a key player in their offenses. He made 393 receptions for 6,400 yards and scored 50 touchdowns. In 1977, he had his best season with the Vikings, with 51 receptions, 907 yards, and nine touchdowns. White was also a five-time Pro Bowl Selection and was considered one of the best wide receivers of his time. In 1985, he retired from football after 10 years in the NFL.
In addition to his football career, Sammy White was involved in many philanthropic activities. He started the Sammy White Foundation to provide underprivileged children with educational opportunities and a chance to learn about sports. The foundation also focused on helping children develop leadership qualities and personal skills. After his football career, he worked as a motivational speaker and mentor to children, inspiring them to follow their dreams and aim for greatness. White passed away on December 8, 2020, at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy as an excellent football player and a kind-hearted philanthropist.
