Sandy Amoros Autographs
Sandy Amoros was a Cuban baseball player, born on January 30, 1930, in Havana, Cuba. He grew up playing baseball and was known for his excellent defensive play on the field. In 1948, he began his professional baseball career with the Havana team of the Cuban League. After playing for a few years in Cuba, he was scouted by the Brooklyn Dodgers and signed with them in 1950. He made his major league debut with the Dodgers in 1952 and quickly established himself as a reliable outfielder.
Amoros played in the major leagues for nine seasons, from 1952 to 1960. During his time with the Dodgers, he was primarily a backup outfielder, but he became best known for his incredible defensive play in the 1955 World Series. In Game 7 of the series, with the Dodgers leading by one run, the Yankees had the tying and go-ahead runs on base. Amoros came into the game as a defensive replacement and made an unforgettable defensive play in left field, catching a deep fly ball and firing it back to the infield to double up the runner at second base, preserving the Dodgers' victory and their first World Series title.
After retiring from baseball, Amoros returned to Cuba and became a successful businessman. He passed away on June 27, 1992, in Miami, Florida. He will always be remembered as a great defensive player and a key contributor to the Brooklyn Dodgers' 1955 World Series championship.
