Showboat Fisher was born in 1899 in Ennis, Texas, and grew up playing baseball on his high school team. He was a natural athlete and played multiple positions on the field, but it wasn't until his college years that Fisher really began to shine. He attended Baylor University and played for their baseball team, where his talents were noticed by a minor league team in nearby Waco. Despite his popularity with fans, Fisher experienced a few setbacks in his baseball career. He struggled with inconsistency at the plate and injuries that kept him out of the game for long stretches of time. He played for a few more teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees, but never reached the same level of success he had with the Giants. Fisher retired from baseball in 1934, having played for ten seasons and leaving behind a legacy as one of the most entertaining players of his time.
