Smead Jolley Autographs
Smead Jolley was an American professional baseball player born in Wesson, Mississippi on January 16, 1892. He played nine seasons in Major League Baseball with the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago White Sox between 1924 and 1933. Jolley was known as a reliable hitter; he batted left-handed and played left field. Smead Jolley's career in baseball spanned over two decades, and earned him a spot in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
Jolley spent the first six years of his professional career playing in the minor leagues. He was promoted to the major leagues in 1924, joining the New York Yankees. Smead then played for the Philadelphia Athletics from 1925 to 1928, where he had the best season of his career in 1927. During this season, he led the American League in batting with a .326 average, hit 14 home runs, drove in 124 runs, and had a slugging percentage of .489. Jolley was then traded to the Boston Red Sox before the 1929 season, then played two seasons with the Chicago White Sox before retiring in 1933.
Despite his impressive performance, Smead Jolley was never invited to play in an All-Star game. However, his contribution to the game was well-respected. Jolley was renowned for his ability to make contact with the pitch and was famous for his hitting style. The left-handed batter would choke up on the bat, giving him more control when making contact with the ball. This technique allowed him to get more hits and fewer strikeouts. Jolley's legacy as a baseball player is undeniable, and his name is forever engraved in the history of the sport.
