Dixon made his debut in the major leagues in 1972, playing for the Atlanta Braves. He was a right-handed pitcher and quickly established himself as a valuable player for the team. He played for the Braves for four seasons, before moving on to play for the San Francisco Giants in 1976. Dixon also played for the Montreal Expos and the Seattle Mariners before retiring in 1985 after a 12-year career in the major leagues.
