Brye began his professional baseball career in 1971, when he was signed by the Minnesota Twins as an undrafted free agent. He made his debut with the Twins in 1973, and played with them for four seasons. In 1977, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he played for two seasons. During his career, Brye was primarily an outfielder and designated hitter. He finished his career with a .258 batting average, 23 home runs, and 127 runs batted in.

After retiring from baseball in 1980, Brye remained involved in the sport, working as a coach and scout for various teams. He has also worked in real estate and as a high school baseball coach. In 1997, he was inducted into the Johns Hopkins University Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding baseball career.
