After college, Comer was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 8th round of the 1977 MLB draft. During his rookie season, Comer made six appearances for the Giants, posting a 3.00 ERA with five strikeouts in six innings pitched.

Comer continued to play for the Giants through the 1982 season, but struggled with injuries and inconsistency. He was eventually released by the team in 1983 and spent the rest of his career playing in the minor leagues for various organizations. Despite his short-lived major league career, Comer is remembered as a talented pitcher who was able to achieve his lifelong dream of playing professional baseball.
