Steve Kemp Autographs
Steve Kemp is a former Major League Baseball left fielder who played for ten seasons with four different teams, including the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was born on August 7, 1954, in San Angelo, Texas, and grew up in California. Kemp’s father, Clyde, was a former professional baseball player himself.
Kemp had an impressive college baseball career while attending the University of Southern California (USC), where he won two National Championships in 1973 and 1974. He was later drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the 1976 MLB draft. Kemp made his Major League debut for the Tigers in 1977 and quickly became a standout player. He had a career-best year in 1979 when he was named to the American League All-Star team and won a Silver Slugger award. That year, he had a batting average of .318 and hit 26 home runs with 105 RBIs.
During his career, Kemp was known for his excellent hitting, strong arm, and speed on the bases. He finished his career with a batting average of .278, 130 home runs, and 700 RBIs. After retiring from baseball in 1988, Kemp remained involved in the sport. He served as a commentator for the Detroit Tigers and also worked as a scout for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Kemp’s baseball accomplishments and love for the game have left a lasting impact on the sport.
