Steve Nicosia Autographs
Steve Nicosia is a former Major League Baseball catcher, born on August 6, 1955, in Paterson, New Jersey. He played for six seasons in the MLB, mainly for the Pittsburgh Pirates, from 1978 to 1984. Nicosia made his debut on July 24, 1978, and became well-known for his play in the 1979 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles when he was part of the Pirates team that won the championship. He played in five of the seven games during the series, recording three hits and three runs batted in.
During his baseball career, Nicosia also played for the Montreal Expos and the San Francisco Giants. He was known as being an excellent defensive catcher who could block the plate with ease and had an above-average throwing arm. Nicosia had a batting average of .249 throughout his career, with 14 home runs and 134 runs batted in.
After his playing career, Nicosia became a coach, first at the minor league level, and then as a major league coach. He served as the bullpen and catching coach for the Washington Nationals from 2006 to 2008, followed by the same role for the Houston Astros from 2009 to 2010. Nicosia's knowledge and experience on the field have made him a valuable addition to the teams he has worked with and earned him a respected reputation in the baseball community.
