Steve Trout was an American professional baseball player who played as a pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1978 to 1989. He was born on July 30, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the 1976 Major League Baseball draft. Trout spent twelve seasons in the majors playing for different teams, including the White Sox, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, and the Minnesota Twins.
Trout's career highlights included his outstanding performance in the 1984 season with the Chicago Cubs, where he set a career-high 13-7 record with an ERA of 3.41, helping the Cubs win the National League Eastern Division. He also won a World Series championship with the Yankees in 1987. Over his career, Trout had an overall record of 88-92, with an ERA of 4.18 and 869 strikeouts.
After his retirement from professional baseball, Trout worked as a pitching coach for various minor league teams, including the Hickory Crawdads and the Charlotte Knights. In 2009, he co-wrote a book called Trout: The Steve Trout Story, which details his career and personal struggles, including battles with alcoholism and depression. Overall, Trout will always be remembered as a hard-working and dedicated athlete who made significant contributions to the game of baseball.
