Ted Cox was a professional baseball player who was born on January 17, 1955, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He attended Midwest City High School and later Oklahoma State University, where he played college baseball. In 1973, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. Cox made his Major League debut on April 7, 1977, and went on to play for five seasons with the Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, and Seattle Mariners.
Cox is best remembered for his outstanding performance in his rookie year with the Boston Red Sox. In his first game on April 7, 1977, Cox went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. He continued to perform well throughout the season, finishing with a .296 batting average, 9 home runs, and 58 RBIs. After his baseball career, Cox went on to become a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He founded Cox Communications, a cable television and telecommunications company, in 1984. Despite his success in the business world, Cox remained involved in baseball, coaching youth teams and serving as a scout for the New York Yankees. Ted Cox's legacy in the baseball world is defined by his outstanding performance as a rookie and his determination and hard work on and off the field.
