Ted Power was a right-handed pitcher, born in Guthrie Center, Iowa in 1955. After graduating from high school, he attended Iowa Central Junior College where he pitched for the Tritons. In 1976, he was drafted in the third round by the LA Dodgers and signed with the team. Over the next seven years, he played for the Dodgers, Texas Rangers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ted Power’s best season was with the Pirates in 1984 when he won 10 games, had a 2.78 ERA, and recorded 91 strikeouts. More about Ted Power

After some up-and-down seasons, Ted Power joined the Cincinnati Reds in 1988, where he enjoyed his career bests. He was the team’s set-up man for John Franco at the time and was a key reason for the team’s division title that season. In 1989, Ted Power also had his best postseason with the Reds, going 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 6 games, including two saves that sealed Reds' victory in the NLCS. He continued to play for the Reds until 1993 before being traded to the Cleveland Indians for two seasons. Overall, Ted Power played for nine seasons in the major leagues and left behind a legacy as the master of the ground ball, with a 2.84 ground ball to fly ball ratio throughout his career, highest among any pitcher with at least 1,000 innings pitched since they started recording those statistics in 1987.

After his retirement from the game, Ted Power coached at various levels including at Arizona State University and with several minor league teams. He is currently the pitching coach for the Columbus Clippers, which is affiliated with the Cleveland Indians. Ted Power is known as a fine pitching coach and has been instrumental in shaping the careers of many young players, providing them with valuable insights into the craft.
