Ted Radcliffe Autographs

Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe was an American baseball player born on July 7, 1902, in Mobile, Alabama. He was a pitcher and a catcher in the Negro leagues for several years. Radcliffe was given his nickname "Double Duty" because he often played both positions during doubleheaders. Radcliffe was one of the few players who could excel at both positions at a high level of skill.
Radcliffe's long career began in the late 1920s as a member of the Detroit Stars. He went on to play for the various teams, including the Chicago American Giants, Kansas City Monarchs, Memphis Red Sox, and Birmingham Black Barons with whom he won the Negro American League Championship in 1943. In his 30 years in the Negro leagues, Radcliffe batted .283 with 83 home runs and won 243 games as a pitcher.
Although Radcliffe never had the opportunity to play in Major League Baseball, he played against many who did in exhibition games. His hard work and dedication to the sport made him one of the most respected players in the Negro Baseball League. Radcliffe received numerous accolades and honors throughout his career, including inductions in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, Atlanta Black Crackers Hall of Fame, and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum's Hall of Fame. Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe died on August 11, 2005, in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 103.
