Ted Wilks Autographs
Ted Wilks was an American professional baseball player born in Fulton, New York, in 1915. Wilks started his baseball career with the Syracuse Stars in the New York-Pennsylvania League in 1937. In 1943, during World War II, he joined the US Army and was stationed in Hawaii, where he played baseball for the Army team. After the war, Wilks signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates and made his Major League debut in 1944.
Wilks spent six seasons in the Major Leagues, playing for the Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Cleveland Indians. He was primarily a relief pitcher, and his best season came in 1949 when he had an ERA of 2.47 and won 14 games for the Cardinals. He also pitched in the 1948 and 1954 World Series, where he helped the Indians win their first championship in 28 years.
After retiring from baseball in 1954, Wilks moved to Fulton, New York, where he worked as a firefighter and served as a city councilman. He was inducted into the Oswego County Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992 and passed away in 1989 at the age of 73. Wilks’ solid career as a reliable relief pitcher make him a notable figure in baseball history.
