Wallach's career began in 1979, when he was drafted by the Montreal Expos. He quickly became a fan favorite for his outstanding play on the field. Wallach played with the Expos from 1979 to 1992, becoming the franchise's all-time leader in games played, at-bats, hits, and doubles. During his career, he was selected to appear in five All-Star Games and won three Gold Gloves. After his career with the Expos, Wallach played for the Dodgers for four seasons before finishing his career with the Angels in 1996. He retired with a lifetime batting average of .257, 260 home runs, 1125 RBI, and a .977 fielding percentage.

After retiring as a player, Wallach went on to become a coach and manager in the minor leagues. He was the manager of the New Orleans Zephyrs, a Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, from 2009 to 2012. Wallach also coached for the Dodgers and the Seattle Mariners. In 2018, he was named the bench coach for the Miami Marlins, where he worked alongside his former player and current Marlins manager, Don Mattingly. Wallach's success as a player and a coach has left a lasting legacy in the baseball world, and he remains an inspiration to young players and fans alike.
