Tom Butters Autograph

Tom Butters was a former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher, coach, and executive. He was born on December 6, 1934, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Butters' baseball career started in 1958, when he was signed as an amateur free agent by the Milwaukee Braves. He pitched for various minor league teams for several years before making his major league debut in 1962 with the Washington Senators. After retiring as a player, Butters became a coach for various MLB teams, including the California Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, and Toronto Blue Jays. In 1983, he was hired as the general manager of the Seattle Mariners, where he served for two years before joining the Cincinnati Reds as their general manager. During his tenure with the Reds, he oversaw the team's World Series championship in 1990. He was also instrumental in bringing Ken Griffey Jr. to the team in 1987.

Butters was known for his strategic thinking and his ability to identify and develop talent. He played a significant role in the success of several MLB teams throughout his career. He passed away on November 29, 2020, at the age of 85. His legacy in baseball continues to be celebrated by those who knew him and worked with him, and his contributions to the sport will not be forgotten.
